Beauty SPEAKS

We have the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets!

I have appreciated them so much lately. I think one of the thing that strikes me is that they are different every day. Another thing that catches my eye is the mixture of the colors. When I try and recreate them, I find it almost impossible.I was drawing a landscape using pastels chalks at a class that I had this summer. It was a picture of the sun rising over some mountains and reflected on a lake. I started with the horizon and then the mountains and then the lake. The lake reflected back the sun rising. As I was finishing it there seemed to be something missing. I asked my instructor to take a look and she just made one little suggestion of adding warmth in the reflection on the lake with a color in the red family. I was struck by two things. She knew just the color to add to bring out what was missing and she was confident in what she saw.

This got me thinking...

This of course got me thinking. My mind goes to that saying that beauty speaks.

On Sundays Mom would...

When I was growing up on Sundays, my Mom would initiate to go for a walk. I especially remember doing this in the fall when the grasses were starting to change colors and the trees and the flowers were starting to fade. I can still feel the warmth from the middle of the day. Since it was cooler in the morning I remember how the warmth from the sun was so nice. The smells were so fresh and the colors so beautiful. As I have thought about my instructor I am thinking about the similarities with my Mom. My instructor looked at my picture and knew what I needed to add to bring out the beauty. My Mom knew what I needed on Sunday afternoons too. It was like she knew what was missing. She had a trained eye and heart and was confident in what was needed. Walks, nature, fresh air and beauty all around. When my instructor pointed out that if I added red to the sunrise it would bring out the warmth of the sun it was a simple thing. She has a trained eye. I think Moms do too.

How about YOU?
